Clinical / Counselling Psychologist – Eating Disorders

Overview 

 

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and empathetic psychologist to join a dedicated inpatient service supporting children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing eating disorders and complex co-morbidities such as autism spectrum conditions, trauma, emerging personality difficulties, depression, OCD, and self-harm.

 

You’ll be part of a forward-thinking, well-resourced team that values psychological input across all levels of care and encourages creativity, research involvement, and continued learning.

 

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist psychological assessments, formulations, and evidence-based interventions to young people and their families within an inpatient setting.

  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy to support recovery and prepare service users for transition beyond hospital care.

  • Contribute psychological perspectives to multidisciplinary team discussions and care planning.

  • Offer consultation, reflective practice, and supervision to assistant psychologists and therapeutic support staff.

  • Participate in research, service evaluation, and clinical governance activities to promote innovation and best practice within the field of eating disorders.

  • Engage in regular CPD opportunities, including internal academic forums, peer supervision, and external training.

 

Candidate Requirements

 

Essential:

  • Doctoral-level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology accredited by the BPS.

  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Experience working with young people or adults presenting with significant mental health difficulties, ideally within inpatient, community, or CAMHS settings.

  • Skilled in delivering evidence-based psychological interventions and working therapeutically with complex emotional and behavioural presentations.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and to maintain professional boundaries in emotionally challenging contexts.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working with individuals with eating disorders and associated co-morbidities (e.g. ASC, trauma, emerging EUPD).

  • Experience in delivering supervision, teaching, or training to colleagues or trainees.

  • Familiarity with service evaluation, clinical research, or quality improvement projects.

  • Formal training in the supervision of psychologists or mental health professionals.

 

Salary Package & Benefits

  • Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 (pro rata), dependent on experience and qualifications.
