Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established multidisciplinary team supporting young people aged 12–18 with complex mental health needs, developmental trauma, and challenging behaviours.
You’ll be working within a therapeutic residential setting that provides integrated care and education, contributing to a holistic approach that empowers young people to reach their full potential. The role offers professional autonomy, varied casework, and opportunities to shape and develop psychological practice within the service.
Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions for young people with mental health difficulties, trauma histories, and behavioural challenges.
- Provide clinical supervision and guidance to Assistant Psychologists and Therapeutic Practitioners.
- Contribute psychological insight to individual care plans and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Undertake risk assessments and develop management strategies in collaboration with other professionals
- Support staff teams to embed psychologically informed care practices through training, consultation, and reflective supervision.
- Evaluate therapeutic outcomes and contribute to continuous service improvement.
- Maintain detailed and accurate clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards.
- Engage in regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent recognised by the HCPC).
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience of working with children and young people with mental health, behavioural, or developmental difficulties.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and risk assessment.
- Excellent communication, formulation, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience supporting others through supervision, consultation, or staff training.
Desirable:
- Experience in developmental trauma, autism, ADHD, or intellectual disabilities.
- Knowledge of therapeutic approaches suitable for Looked After Children or those with complex attachment needs.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care and positive behavioural support approaches.
Salary Package & Benefits
- Competitive salary equivalent to NHS Band 7–8a (dependent on experience).
- Flexible, part-time working hours (up to 32 hours per week, weekdays only).
