Compass Associates are proud to be working with a leading charity, located in Headingly, who are in search for an experienced and motivated Ward Manager to join their Hospice. Following a period of transformation and renewal, our client is investing in a strong, compassionate leadership to help strengthen and develop the inpatient service. As a Ward Manager, you will lead their dedicated inpatients team to continue delivering outstanding, person-centred palliative care.

 

Our client provides expert palliative and end-of-life care for people aged 18 and over living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure, and lung disease. They combine clinical expertise with emotional, practical, and spiritual support to help patients and families make the most of every day. They pride themselves on their excellent staffing rations, offering a calm, compassionate, and highly supportive environment.

 

Role & Responsibilities

As Ward Manager, you will provide visible, values-led leadership for a multidisciplinary team of around 25 staff, including Clinical Team Leaders, Registered Nurses, HCAs, and volunteers. You’ll ensure the safe and effective running of our inpatient unit, promoting a culture of quality, compassion, and accountability.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical leadership, supervision, and support to nursing and care staff.
  • Ensuring safe, evidence-based practice in all aspects of end-of-life care.
  • Managing and developing the team, fostering professional growth and wellbeing.
  • Leading quality improvement initiatives and supporting CQC compliance.
  • Working collaboratively with the Head of Clinical Services, medical staff, and external partners to ensure seamless, person-centred care.
  • Overseeing rota planning, staffing levels, and daily operational management.

Requirements

We’re looking for a confident, compassionate nurse leader who thrives in a collaborative, clinically focused environment. In order to be successful with this opportunities, you will need:

  • RGN with NMC registration.
  • Strong line management experience.
  • Proven clinical competence, including administering end-of-life medications and use of syringe drivers.
  • A track record of leading teams through change, service improvement, or audit.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
  • Palliative care experience is highly desirable, though we welcome candidates from Oncology, Haematology, HDU, Care Home or similar complex care settings.
  • Above all, you’ll bring compassion, resilience, and a passion for ensuring every patient receives exceptional care.

 

Salary & Benefits

In return, you will receive a salary up to £49,000 dependent on experience, which could be negotiated for the right candidate. You will also be entitled to an amazing benefits package including:
