Night Shift Electrical Engineer – Coleshill | Logistics & Automation

Full-Time | £49,705 per annum
Monday to Friday | 22:00 – 06:00 | Coleshill, Birmingham

Compass Corporate Services are proud to be partnered with a leading national organisation in logistics and automated distribution, recruiting for an experienced and proactive Multi Skilled Maintenance Technician at their Coleshill depot.

 

This is a permanent night shift position (Monday to Friday, 22:00–06:00), offering an exciting opportunity to take full technical ownership of the site during night operations. As the sole engineer on shift, you’ll be the first line of response for all maintenance issues, keeping essential automation systems running smoothly and safely.

 

You’ll need strong electrical and mechanical skills, sound problem-solving ability, and the confidence to work autonomously in a highly automated, fast-moving environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for overnight maintenance operations, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on automated conveyor and picking systems

  • Diagnose and repair faults across electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems — including motors, belts, sensors, and actuators

  • Respond swiftly to breakdowns, applying strong electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills

  • Engage and oversee contractors when required, ensuring safe and compliant works

  • Support the delivery of technical and automation projects within the wider supply chain team

  • Maintain clear maintenance records and uphold the highest safety and compliance standards

Candidate Requirements

  • Recognised Level 3 qualification in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) – electrically trained essential

  • Proven background in maintenance engineering, ideally within logistics, manufacturing, or automated environments

  • Strong practical experience working with conveyor systems, pneumatics, motors, and belts

  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electrical systems

  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification desirable

  • Able to work independently and make confident technical decisions as the sole technician on site

  • Physically capable of performing hands-on work, including lifting (up to 15kg), bending, and standing for extended periods
