Job Title: Practitioner Psychologist – HCPC – Forensic Step Down Service

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum (Pro-rata)
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (3 days)
Location: Croydon, South London

Overview:

 

Compass Associates is working closely with a reputable charitable provider, and together we are seeking a Practitioner Psychologist to join a leading forensic step down residential service in Croydon. This part-time role offers a fantastic opportunity to work across multiple sites, providing psychological support and leadership to a team working with individuals with complex mental health needs, including previous offences, drug and alcohol use, and potential neurodiversity.

 

As a Practitioner Psychologist, you will play a vital role in delivering psychological assessments, leading therapeutic interventions, and supervising staff within this forensic step down setting. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team, using evidence-based approaches such as DBT and CBT to support staff and residents. Your expertise in complex mental health will be key in shaping care pathways, improving staff training, and enhancing outcomes for service users in the forensic step down service.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychological assessments and create tailored interventions for residents with complex mental health needs, including forensic backgrounds, trauma, and neurodiversity.
  • Provide clinical supervision and staff support, particularly for dual diagnosis workers within the forensic step down service.
  • Develop and deliver group and individual therapeutic sessions, using DBT, CBT, and trauma-informed care tailored to individuals in forensic step down environments.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including key workers, activity coordinators, and occupational therapists, to deliver high-quality care for those with complex mental health challenges.
  • Lead reflective practice sessions to enhance staff resilience and reduce burnout within the forensic step down setting.
  • Contribute to risk management and de-escalation strategies for residents with complex mental health needs, ensuring safety within the forensic step down service.
  • Support the development of structured care pathways, ensuring effective forensic step down processes for residents transitioning towards independent living.

Essential Requirements:

  • HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in forensic or inpatient complex mental health settings.
  • Strong background in working with complex mental health conditions, including trauma, dual diagnosis, and challenging behaviours.
  • Expertise in therapeutic approaches such as DBT, CBT, and trauma-informed care.
  • Experience in staff supervision, training, and clinical leadership within a forensic step down service.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and support multidisciplinary teams working in complex mental health environments.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Competitive Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum (Pro-rata).
