Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Home
Salary £60,000 – £65,000 (Dependent on experience) + £5,000 Retention Bonus
Hybrid Working: 4 Days Office, 1 Day Home Based

Overview:
A growing residential childcare provider is seeking a Registered Manager for a two-bed children’s home in Shirley, Birmingham. This is a new home providing therapeutic care for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties (EBD). The Registered Manager will lead the service through Ofsted registration, oversee daily operations, and provide hands-on, child-centered support.
The Candidate:
The Registered Manager will have full responsibility for the leadership and operation of the home, ensuring compliance with Ofsted regulations while actively engaging with the children in daily activities. The role requires a proactive, hands-on approach, promoting a therapeutic and child-focused environment. Candidates with experience as Deputy Managers who are ready to step up will be considered if they demonstrate strong leadership and operational capability.
Essential Criteria:
Completed or enrolled in the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Children and Young People’s Services
Experience in children’s residential care
Strong knowledge of Ofsted legislation and registration processes
Ability to demonstrate a hands-on, child-centered, and therapeutic approach
Proven leadership ability, with experience supervising or managing staff teams
Commitment to supporting children’s development and maintaining high standards of care
Driver with access to a vehicle
Clear and enhanced DBS
Salary and Benefits:
Base salary between £60,000 and £65,000, with flexibility depending on experience and qualifications
£5,000 annual retention bonus to incentivize maintaining high-quality care
25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
One work-from-home day per week
Company car provided
Salary adjustments possible if managing additional homes (up to £70,000)
Partial relocation support may be available for candidates moving to Birmingham
Location:
The home is located in Birmingham. The role is primarily on-site, with opportunities for involvement in multiple homes in the future. Commutable from Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, and surrounding areas.
Interview Process:
The process will include a Teams interview with the Responsible Individual and the hiring manager. Scenario-based discussions will assess leadership style, operational decision-making, and approach to child-centered care.
