Overview

Compass Associates are working with a highly regarded organisation in West Yorkshire to recruit a Lead Occupational Health Advisor for their established in-house Occupational Health service.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Occupational Health Nurse or Advisor who wants to combine hands-on clinical work with leadership and service development, without moving into a heavily strategic management position.

You’ll take the lead on more complex OH cases while supporting the day-to-day running of a small, established team.

Applications are welcomed from existing Senior/Lead OH professionals as well as experienced OH Advisors ready to take their first step into leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day clinical delivery of the Occupational Health service.

  • Manage, support and develop the wider OH team.

  • Undertake complex management referrals and sickness absence cases.

  • Advise on fitness for work, workplace adjustments and return-to-work plans.

  • Provide senior clinical guidance to managers, HR and colleagues.

  • Support clinical supervision, appraisals and staff development.

  • Oversee referral triage and appropriate allocation of cases.

  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and service delivery.

  • Use OH data and trends to support health initiatives and service improvements.

  • Work alongside an experienced Occupational Physician on more complex cases.

Essential Criteria

  • Significant Occupational Health nursing experience.

  • Strong experience of management referrals and sickness absence case management.

  • Confidence managing complex cases and making independent clinical decisions.

  • Good knowledge of Occupational Health legislation and professional standards.

  • Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

  • Comfortable using Occupational Health databases and electronic clinical records.

  • Proactive approach to service improvement.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.

  • Completed formal Occupational Health qualification – Certificate, Diploma, Degree or equivalent.

  • Evidence of ongoing Occupational Health CPD.

  • Full UK driving licence.

Previous line-management experience is desirable but not essential. Candidates looking to make their first move from an experienced OHA position into a Lead role are encouraged to apply.

Package & Benefits

  • £49,600 – £53,049 including current market supplement.

  • Further pay award pending.

  • Excellent pension scheme.

  • 26 days annual leave, rising to 31 days after 5 years, plus bank holidays.

  • Hybrid working – typically up to 2 days per week from home.

  • Flexible working and flexitime.

  • Free on-site parking.

  • Generous sick pay.

  • Employee wellbeing and counselling support.

  • Enhanced family-friendly policies.

  • Employee discount schemes.

  • Ongoing training, professional development and leadership support.

Why Consider This Role?

A strong opportunity for an experienced Occupational Health professional who wants more autonomy, leadership responsibility and influence, while still remaining clinically involved.

You’ll be joining a supportive, stable service with established clinical support and genuine scope to bring new ideas, improve ways of working and develop your leadership career.
