Director of Nursing | Senior Living | Skilled Nursing Facility
Compass Associates partnered with a Skilled Nursing Facility based in North Carolina to recruit a Director of Nursing position as part of a critical hire for the business.

Due to state regulations, all applicants were required to be registered nurses in North Carolina to be eligible for the Director of Nursing (DON) position. Leveraging their deep expertise in the senior living market, Compass Associates’ specialist division was able to identify and present several highly relevant candidates within less than a week. The quality of the shortlist resulted in three candidates progressing to interview stage.
To maintain momentum and ensure candidate engagement throughout the process, Compass Associates worked in close collaboration with the client’s internal SNF recruitment team. The process did face some logistical challenges, including annual leave across both the interview panel and candidate pool, which led to the addition of an extra interview stage. Furthermore, Hurricane Helene caused significant disruption, temporarily preventing the facility from communicating externally for over 48 hours.
The Outcome
Despite these challenges, the process concluded successfully with the placement of a strong candidate into the DON role. Since joining, the successful hire has already made a notable impact, including securing their former Assistant Director of Nursing to fill a long-standing vacancy at the facility – an opportunity that had remained open for over a year.
