Compass Associates are delighted to be partnering with a well-established elderly care provider in the recruitment of an experienced Clinical Deputy Manager (RGN) for an elderly nursing home in Sheffield.
This is a key leadership appointment within the service and an excellent opportunity for an experienced Clinical Deputy Manager or Deputy Manager who is confident leading nursing and care teams within an elderly care environment.
Working alongside the Regional Manager and wider senior management team, you will play a key role in providing clinical leadership, stability and direction across the home, ensuring residents continue to receive high-quality, safe and person-centred care.
Due to the requirements of the service, we are specifically looking for somebody who already has experience operating at Deputy Manager or Clinical Deputy Manager level within an elderly care setting. This is not a first-step Deputy Manager opportunity and requires someone who can confidently lead and support an established team.
About the Role
As Clinical Deputy Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the clinical and operational running of the home while providing visible and experienced leadership to the nursing and care teams.
The position is contracted to 47 hours per week and includes alternate weekend working as part of the rota.
Working as part of the home's senior management team, you will:
- Support the day-to-day clinical and operational management of the nursing home.
- Provide strong and visible leadership across the nursing and care teams.
- Lead, supervise, coach and develop Nurses, Senior Carers and Care Assistants.
- Ensure residents receive safe, effective and person-centred nursing care.
- Maintain high standards of clinical governance and regulatory compliance.
- Support care planning, risk assessments and clinical reviews.
- Maintain a hands-on and visible presence throughout the service.
- Support audits, governance, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the home remains compliant and inspection-ready.
- Work collaboratively with the Regional Manager and wider senior leadership team.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide strong clinical leadership throughout the home.
- Lead, support, supervise and develop the nursing and care teams.
- Oversee residents' care plans, risk assessments and clinical documentation.
- Monitor residents' changing clinical needs and ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Maintain high standards of medication management and clinical practice.
- Complete and support clinical audits and quality assurance processes.
- Lead on safeguarding, MCA, DoLS, infection prevention and clinical governance.
- Support investigations into incidents, accidents and clinical concerns.
- Work closely with GPs, community teams and other external healthcare professionals.
- Support recruitment, induction, supervision and development of staff.
- Provide guidance and support to Nurses and Care Teams during complex situations.
- Promote a positive culture of accountability, teamwork and person-centred care.
- Support the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the service.
- Deputise and provide senior leadership within the home when required.
Requirements
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a valid NMC PIN.
- Experienced RMNs with a strong elderly nursing home background may also be considered.
- Full right to work in the UK – no sponsorship available.
- Previous experience within an elderly nursing home environment is essential.
- Previous experience as a Clinical Deputy Manager, Deputy Manager or equivalent senior clinical leader is essential.
- This position is not suitable for somebody looking for their first Deputy Manager role.
- Strong experience leading and managing nursing and care teams.
- Good understanding of CQC regulations and regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of clinical governance, safeguarding, medication management, MCA and DoLS.
- Experience completing audits, care planning, risk assessments and quality improvement.
- Confident managing challenging situations and providing clear direction to a team.
- Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work 47 hours per week, including alternate weekends.
About You
You'll be an experienced and confident clinical leader who is comfortable taking responsibility and providing direction within a busy elderly nursing home.
You'll already have experience operating at Deputy Manager or Clinical Deputy Manager level and understand the expectations that come with supporting the clinical and operational management of a nursing service.
You'll be visible, approachable and hands-on, with the ability to build credibility with the nursing and care teams while maintaining clear standards and accountability.
You'll be comfortable supporting teams through periods of change, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring high standards are maintained consistently across the service.
Most importantly, you'll be passionate about delivering excellent care and creating a positive environment for residents, relatives and colleagues.
