The Role

 

This position as Respiratory Physiologist is a key clinical role within the new Welbeck Cambridge Hospital. Working exclusively within the outpatient setting, this role offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality respiratory diagnostics in a modern, patient-focused environment.

 

Working closely alongside Consultant Respiratory Physicians and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for independently performing and supporting a range of specialist respiratory investigations and contributing to the delivery of exceptional patient care.

 

As the dedicated Respiratory Physiologist on site, you will work autonomously whilst building strong relationships with Consultants, nursing colleagues and allied health professionals to ensure the delivery of a seamless and exceptional patient experience.

You will also play an important role in supporting service development, governance, quality improvement and the education of trainee physiologists.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

Independently perform and support a range of specialist respiratory investigations including:

  • Spirometry.

  • Full Lung Function Testing.

  • Reversibility Studies.

  • Home Sleep Studies.

  • Bronchial Provocation Testing.

  • Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET).

  • Assessment of complex respiratory cases across a broad spectrum of pathology.

Working closely with Consultant Respiratory Physicians, you will contribute to accurate diagnosis and support the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based patient care.

 

 

Service Leadership

You will:

  • Support the day-to-day running of respiratory clinics.

  • Contribute to the development of highly specialised respiratory services.

  • Participate in audit and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Collect and analyse departmental statistics where appropriate.

  • Support the smooth and efficient flow of patients through the department.

  • Promote safe and effective patient pathways.

  • Maintain compliance with CQC standards and organisational policies.

 

Education and Training

You will:

  • Support trainee and student physiologists.

  • Assist colleagues with learning and enhancing their skills.

  • Promote in-house learning and professional development.

  • Support orientation and induction of new starters.

  • Act as a positive role model within the outpatient team.

 

Patient-Centred Care

You will:

  • Deliver safe, compassionate and individualised care.

  • Explain complex procedures clearly to patients and relatives.

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of respiratory investigations, associated drugs, risks and contraindications.

  • Provide reassurance and emotional support when required.

  • Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition or emergency situations.

  • Maintain dignity, confidentiality and privacy at all times.

  • Support a positive patient experience throughout the outpatient journey.

What Can You Bring?

Essential

  • Degree in Clinical Physiology or Healthcare Science or equivalent.

  • ARTP Part 1 and Part 2 professional examination qualifications.

  • Minimum two years post-qualification experience.

  • Proven experience independently performing a range of respiratory investigations.

  • Experience undertaking spirometry and full lung function testing.

  • Experience with reversibility studies, home sleep studies, bronchial provocation testing and CPET.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.

  • Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.

 

Desirable

  • RCCP or AHCS registration.

  • Experience delivering in-house training programmes.

  • Experience supervising trainee physiologists.

  • Experience supporting service development and quality improvement initiatives.
