Deputy Headteacher – Specialist School (Autism & SEMH)

Salary £57,000 - £67,000

 

We are seeking a dedicated and ambitious Deputy Headteacher to join a specialist independent school, supporting young people with Autism and SEMH needs.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced senior leader ready to play a key role in shaping the direction of a growing and evolving provision.

The Opportunity

 

As Deputy Headteacher, you will work closely with the Headteacher and wider leadership team to:

  • Support the day-to-day running of the school
  • Lead on key areas such as quality of education, behaviour, or inclusion 
  • Help embed a consistent, positive culture across the staff team
  • Drive high standards in teaching, learning, and pupil outcomes
  • Support staff development, coaching, and performance management
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the school

Key Responsibilities

  • This role has teaching responsibilities 
  • Support the Headteacher in the overall leadership and management of the school
  • Lead and model outstanding practice in teaching and learning
  • Promote a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for all pupils
  • Line manage staff and support their professional development
  • Contribute to safeguarding, compliance, and regulatory standards
  • Lead on school improvement priorities and ensure their effective implementation
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, families, and external professionals

 

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has senior leadership experience within a specialist, SEND, or alternative provision setting
  • Has strong knowledge of Autism and SEMH needs
  • Is passionate about improving outcomes for young people with complex needs
  • Is a confident and supportive leader, able to motivate and develop others
  • Demonstrates resilience, adaptability, and a solution-focused mindset
  • Must have QTS
