Nuffield Health exclusively engaged Compass Associates’ Healthcare division to support the clinical staffing of their new St Bartholomew’s Hospital, a flagship project that saw Nuffield Health become the first and only independent hospital in the City of London.

The Requirements

Nuffield Health’s decision to work with a single recruitment partner on a project of this profile reflected both the complexity of what was needed and a level of confidence in Compass Associates’ ability to deliver it. The brief required 24 specialist nurses across varying seniorities, alongside pharmacy professionals including a Pharmacy Manager, all in post ahead of the hospital’s October opening date.

The Outcome

Within seven weeks of taking the brief, Compass Associates had submitted 45 CVs, generated 34 interviews, and made 16 offers, ahead of the agreed schedule and with client feedback described as “delighted”. By the conclusion of the project, 17 placements had been made in total with 95% offer to acceptance levels.

As Stuart Cousins, Director at Compass Associates, noted at the time: “within seven weeks of taking the briefs and understanding the scope and delivery required, 16 offers had been secured for the new hospital, with the project running ahead of schedule”.

The success of this project was built on the same approach Compass Associates brings to all volume clinical assignments: a dedicated team engaging directly with the brief, bespoke candidate materials created by the internal marketing team to give candidates a clear picture of the opportunity and the organisation, and close communication with hiring managers throughout to ensure the process moved efficiently and that offer acceptance rates held up.

The beginning of a long-standing and ongoing partnership

The St Bartholomew’s project was the starting point for a wider partnership with Nuffield Health across their national hospital network. Compass Associates continued to support the business with clinical and management recruitment across multiple sites, with the relationship developing into one of ongoing trust rather than transactional engagement.

That trust was demonstrated again in 2025, when Nuffield Health returned to Compass Associates – outside of any formal partnership arrangement – to lead the search for Hospital Directors at two of their sites, in Cheltenham and Woking. Both appointments were successfully made. The fact that Nuffield Health chose Compass Associates for both searches, on a direct basis, says as much about the relationship as any contractual metric.
