Southampton, Hampshire
Salary: Circa £85,000 base + bonuses + benefits
Requirements:
- Registered Manager experience within adult social care with a track record of Good or Outstanding CQC ratings
- Prior new-build commissioning experience (highly desirable) and previous management of a comparable 50+ bed residential or nursing service
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management, or equivalent senior management experience; nurse qualification (RGN/RMN) preferred
- Strong commercial awareness across occupancy growth, budget management, agency control and referral pipeline development
The Role
Compass Associates are retained on a search for an incoming Commissioning Home Manager on behalf of a well-established, values-led elderly care provider with a strong national growth pipeline.
This is a full commissioning appointment for a brand-new premium residential, dementia and nursing home opening in 2027. The remit carries full site ownership from pre-opening through to long-term operational success – workforce planning and recruitment strategy, operational and governance setup, CQC registration and inspection readiness, occupancy growth from a standing start, community and referral engagement, and full P&L accountability.
Working directly with senior operational leadership, the successful candidate will build the founding team, embed the culture, and position the home as a benchmark within the group's growing regional portfolio.
Candidate
We are seeking an experienced Registered Manager or Commissioning Home Manager with genuine commercial instinct and a values-led approach to residential and nursing care. You will bring a track record of Good or Outstanding CQC outcomes, comfort with occupancy build from a standing start, and a specific and evidenced approach to community referral development.
You will combine operational and clinical credibility with commercial fluency – occupancy, fee mix, agency control, home-level profitability – and the confidence to move between board-level KPI conversations and day-to-day operational decisions on the floor.
Experience across premium residential, dementia and nursing configurations of 50+ beds is essential, as is the appetite to lead a new-build through every stage of the commissioning journey. Above all, the successful candidate will be motivated by purpose and comfortable in a high-trust, high-autonomy environment where the standards, reputation and culture of the home are theirs to build from day one.
Location
Southampton, Hampshire. Full site ownership with pre-opening presence required through commissioning.
Summary
A rare opportunity to lead a brand-new premium care home from the ground up, with a well-established provider that consistently invests in its people and its estate. The successful candidate will play a defining role in establishing the standards, culture and reputation of the home from day one, backed by a group with clear longer-term progression opportunities across a growing regional portfolio.
Full package includes competitive base salary, substantial KPI-linked annual bonus, separate commissioning bonus, and a strong wider benefits offering.
