Assistant Headteacher – Quality of Education ( Teaching Role )

Salary: £50,000 – £55,000
A brand-new specialist school in Colchester, supporting students aged 8–16 with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, is seeking an outstanding Assistant Headteacher to lead on the Quality of Education across the provision.

About the Role
As Assistant Headteacher, you will play a central role in developing, delivering, and monitoring the curriculum and teaching standards across the school.
This is a teaching leadership position initially with a teaching commitment of around 50%, which will reduce as the staff team grows. You will be a key member of the senior leadership team, working closely with the Associate Headteacher.
Key responsibilities include:

Designing, embedding and quality-assuring an inclusive, ambitious curriculum

Leading teaching and learning across the school, ensuring consistently high standards

Coaching, mentoring and developing teachers and support staff

Using data and assessment effectively to drive progress and personalised learning

Modelling outstanding classroom practice, particularly for learners with ASC and SEMH
-
Driving a culture of high expectations, creativity and continuous improvement

Supporting behaviour, safeguarding and wider school development as part of the SLT
About You

Strong teaching experience within SEND, ASC or SEMH settings

Must hold a QTS

A deep understanding of curriculum design and high-quality pedagogy

The ability to lead by example and influence whole-school improvement

Skills in coaching, mentoring and developing others

Resilience, creativity and a commitment to child-centred practice
