Clinical Deputy Manager – Elderly Nursing Home
Location: Gillingham, Kent
Salary: £55,000 per annum
Hours: 36 hours per week, supernumerary

Compass Associates are proud to be working in partnership with a respected elderly care provider who are seeking an experienced Clinical Deputy Manager to join their established nursing home in Gillingham, Kent.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Clinical Deputy Manager, Deputy Manager or Clinical Lead with a strong background within elderly care to take on a fully supernumerary senior leadership position.
The home is a medium-sized nursing, residential and dementia service, and the successful candidate will work closely with the Home Manager and wider management team to provide strong clinical leadership and support the continued delivery of high-quality, person-centred care.
The Role
Working closely with the Home Manager and wider management team, you will play a key role in the clinical leadership and ongoing development of the service.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing visible clinical leadership across the home.
Supporting the Home Manager with the day-to-day running of the service.
Providing strong clinical oversight across nursing and care.
Maintaining high standards of safe, effective and person-centred care.
Supporting medication management and medicines governance.
Supporting clinical audits and quality assurance processes.
Reviewing and strengthening risk assessments and risk management.
Supporting care planning and ensuring residents' needs are accurately reflected.
Monitoring care standards and identifying areas for improvement.
Supporting staff development, supervision and competency.
Working closely with residents, relatives and healthcare professionals.
Providing support and challenge to nursing and care teams where required.
Acting as a positive, visible and consistent role model across the service.
The position is fully supernumerary, with no expectation to work regular nursing shifts, although you may need to provide clinical support when required.
The role is approximately 36 hours per week, generally around 8am–4pm, with some flexibility around days worked. Managers also participate in an on-call rota.
About You
We are looking for an experienced RGN who is confident providing clinical leadership within an elderly care setting.
You will ideally have:
RGN qualification with an active NMC PIN – essential.
Previous Clinical Deputy Manager, Deputy Manager or Clinical Lead experience within an elderly care or nursing home setting.
Significant experience working within elderly nursing care.
Strong knowledge and understanding of dementia care.
Experience leading and supporting nursing and care teams.
A strong understanding of clinical governance, CQC requirements and care standards.
Experience with medication management, care planning, risk assessments, audits and quality processes.
The ability to provide confident and effective clinical leadership.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A positive, resilient and solutions-focused approach.
A genuine passion for delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
Please note: Candidates coming solely from a hospital or community nursing background without significant elderly care home experience will not be suitable for this position.
