We are working with a well-regarded, family-owned elderly care provider seeking an experienced Deputy Manager for one of their Greater London services.

This vacancy is being recruited alongside the Home Manager. Occupancy is close to full, the commercial picture is sound, and internal quality work is positive. The need is a clinically strong deputy who can anchor nursing practice while a more operational Home Manager leads occupancy and the wider people agenda.

Our client is a privately owned group with a small, quality-led portfolio and a clear plan for measured growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the clinical lead for the home, working in partnership with a more operational and commercial Home Manager.
• Provide supernumerary leadership, with one day a week on the floor covering.
• Lead and support the nursing team. There is no separate Clinical Lead post.
• Uphold clinical standards, governance and day-to-day quality on the floor.
• Take a share of on-call (every two weeks) and pick up nights from time to time, while remaining contracted Monday to Friday.

The Ideal Candidate

• RGN, with genuine Deputy Manager experience. This is not a first deputy post.
• Elderly / residential nursing home background. RMN or RNLD is not the preference for this home.
• Clinically sound, used to holding a team, and able to be the clinical counterpart to an operational Home Manager.
• Inclusive rather than command-and-control. The team needs someone who will support, set the standard and walk it with them.
• Resilient enough for a home that still has a people agenda to work through, without treating the service as a short-term project.

The Role and the Home

• Established elderly nursing home on the East London / Essex border.
• Contracted Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00, 40 hours.
• On call every two weeks. Occasional nights as required; not a contracted night pattern.
• Supernumerary apart from one floor-covering day each week.
• Occupancy is close to full. Commercial performance is described as sound.
• A Home Manager is being recruited at the same time. The ideal pairing is an operational Home Manager and a clinical Deputy; the reverse would only be considered if both people work well together.

The home is commutable from Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster, Dartford, Barking, Dagenham, Ilford, Brentwood, Tilbury, Stanford Le Hope, Rainham and other London and Essex areas
