Compass Associates are proud to be working in partnership with a highly regarded, values-led elderly care provider to recruit a General Manager for one of their luxury care homes in the Oxford. This is a rare opportunity to lead a well-established service with significant long-term potential as part of an organisation recognised for delivering high-quality care alongside a strong charitable purpose. This role will suit an experienced Home Manager with a strong operational background and proven experience leading improvement-focused services. The home is currently undergoing a wider turnaround and stabilisation journey, requiring a leader who can bring structure, and cultural alignment while maintaining a compassionate and people-focused approach.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the overall performance of the home, driving improvements in quality and governance, supporting occupancy growth, strengthening team culture, and embedding consistent operational standards. You will work closely with an engaged senior leadership team and benefit from significant central support across operations, quality, HR, and clinical functions. This is a visible, hands-on leadership role requiring a manager who can confidently support teams on the ground, build trust with residents and relatives, and create a positive, accountable culture throughout the service.
The Candidate
Our client is seeking an experienced and credible leader with a strong background in elderly care home management. Candidates should be confident leading services through periods of change, improving standards, and supporting teams to achieve sustainable operational and quality improvements.
The ideal candidate will be commercially aware while remaining values-led and relationship-focused. You will be operationally strong, highly organised, and capable of balancing governance, staffing, occupancy, quality, and team engagement within a demanding but rewarding environment.
The successful candidate will be able to challenge where necessary while maintaining a supportive and approachable leadership style. Strong communication skills are essential, particularly when engaging with residents, families, senior leadership teams, and external stakeholders. A clinical background would be advantageous, although experienced non-clinical managers with a strong track record in turnaround environments will also be considered.
Requirements – Essential
- Previous experience as a Home Manager / General Manager within elderly care
- Strong understanding of CQC regulations and governance processes
- Experience improving quality, compliance, and operational performance
- Proven leadership and people management skills
- Ability to manage staffing challenges, recruitment pressures, and agency usage
- Commercial awareness including occupancy, budgeting, and workforce planning
- Values-led leadership approach with strong emotional intelligence
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Requirements – Desirable
- Nurse qualification / clinical background
- Previous turnaround or improvement-project experience
- Experience within luxury or premium elderly care settings
- Exposure to both residential and nursing services
