Summary
A leading provider of specialist care , with a diverse national portfolio of over 50 sites and a track record of delivering high-quality environments, is seeking a Head of Estates. This senior role will oversee the strategic and operational management of the organisation’s estate, including planned and reactive maintenance, refurbishments, and capital projects, while ensuring properties remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.
Overview
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Head of Estates will lead a team of Regional Property
Managers and maintenance staff, overseeing day-to-day operational delivery and strategic estate planning. You will manage a mix of capital projects, refurbishments, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across a nationwide property portfolio.
This role combines hands-on operational management with strategic oversight, ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standard. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, including Finance, Operations, and Executive leadership, as well as external contractors, architects, and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the estates function, including Regional Property Managers and maintenance staff, ensuring high-quality delivery of PPM, refurbishments, and capital projects.
- Develop and implement annual and long-term estate and capital plans aligned with organisational objectives.
- Oversee maintenance, refurbishment, and new build projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to regulatory standards.
- Manage budgets for repairs, maintenance, and capital works, ensuring value for money.
- Lead tendering, and contract management for external suppliers and contractors.
- Conduct property inspections and audits, reporting on condition, risks, and improvement plans.
- Provide strategic advice and reporting to senior leadership on estate performance, risks, and opportunities.
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience managing multi-site estates or facilities functions within care
- Experience delivering a mixture of capital projects, refurbishments, and PPM work.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, including experience overseeing property managers and operational staff.
- Excellent budget management and procurement experience.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally.
- Knowledge of statutory compliance, health & safety, and regulatory frameworks relevant to estates management.
