Head of Operations – Healthcare

Location: Midlands & North West (Hybrid, with national travel)

Salary: c.£100,000 per annum (plus company bonus + car allowance)

Compass Associates are proud to partner with a forward-thinking national retail healthcare group in the appointment of a Director of Operations.

 

About the Role

 

Reporting to the C-Suite team, the Director of Operations will lead a team of Area Operations Managers across a portfolio spanning a national scope. The successful candidate will drive operational excellence, profitability, and compliance while delivering exceptional patient and customer experiences.

 

This is a strategic and hands-on leadership position, responsible for developing and implementing operational frameworks, driving continuous improvement, and supporting the rollout of innovative technologies – including new robotic dispensing systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead day-to-day retail operations across a national portfolio
  • Develop and deliver the operations strategy aligned with the company’s overall business objectives
  • Drive commercial performance through strong financial management, cost control, and growth initiatives
  • Oversee compliance, governance, and quality standards in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team
  • Implement operational KPIs to improve sales, gross margin, stock control, and customer satisfaction
  • Mentor and develop Area Managers, Clinic Managers, and support teams to achieve high performance and retention
  • Champion innovation, efficiency, and the introduction of new service models (e.g. clinical services, e-commerce)
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and department heads to drive cross-functional improvement

 

Candidate Profile

 

  • 7+ years’ experience in retail healthcare operations, including being within a senior leadership level
  • Proven success in multi-site national management, commercial delivery, and process optimisation
  • Strong leadership skills with experience developing and inspiring high-performing teams
  • Excellent understanding of retail healthcare operations, regulatory frameworks, and governance standards
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and ability to drive performance through data and insight
  • Ambitious, forward-thinking, and adaptable – capable of introducing fresh ideas and modern operational solutions
