Regional Support Manager | Elderly Care | RGN/RMN
Salary: £85,000 - £90,000 + Up to 20% Regional Performance Bonus + Mileage + Excellent Benefits
Hours: Full Time
Location: South & South West England | Regional Portfolio of 8 Care Homes
Remit
Compass Associates are proud to be exclusively partnering with an established elderly care provider to appoint an experienced Regional Support Manager to provide operational leadership across a portfolio of eight elderly care homes spanning Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Somerset and Cardiff.
This isn't your typical Regional Support Manager position. Rather than simply monitoring KPIs from a distance, the Regional Support Manager will be a highly visible, hands-on operational leader who can move confidently between established services, homes requiring additional support and services going through periods of operational change.
You'll work closely with Home Managers to understand what's happening within each individual service, identify where support or intervention is required and ensure improvements translate into sustainable results. From strengthening clinical governance and supporting CQC improvement to developing Home Managers, stabilising teams, controlling agency and driving occupancy, you'll have significant influence over the performance of the entire portfolio.
With a salary of up to £90,000, an up to 20% regional performance bonus and considerable autonomy, this represents an excellent opportunity for an accomplished regional operator looking for a substantial multi-site leadership position.
The Opportunity
As Regional Support Manager, you'll oversee and support eight elderly care homes, with responsibility for:
- Providing strong, visible operational leadership across the regional portfolio.
- Coaching, developing and constructively challenging Home Managers.
- Driving consistently high standards of person-centred care and resident experience.
- Strengthening clinical governance, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
- Supporting homes to achieve and maintain strong CQC outcomes.
- Identifying areas of underperformance and implementing clear improvement plans.
- Supporting turnaround, service improvement and operational change.
- Developing confident, capable and accountable Home Managers.
- Monitoring recruitment, retention, staffing levels and agency usage.
- Supporting occupancy growth, enquiries, admissions and commercial performance.
- Monitoring budgets, staffing costs and effective resource allocation.
- Using operational and quality data to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Sharing best practice across the eight homes.
- Ensuring improvements are embedded and sustained rather than providing short-term fixes.
- Building strong relationships with residents, relatives, colleagues and external stakeholders.
The Regional Support Manager will have the autonomy to recognise that every service is different, adapting their leadership and operational support depending on the needs of each home.
The Candidate
We're looking for an experienced and credible Registered Nurse and senior operational leader who understands what excellent elderly care looks like clinically, operationally and commercially. You'll ideally already be working as a Regional Support Manager, Regional Operations Manager, Area Manager or equivalent, with experience supporting multiple elderly care services.
However, we're equally interested in speaking with exceptional Nurse Home Managers who have successfully managed multiple services simultaneously, delivered measurable improvements and are now ready to take their first step into a significant regional position.
The successful Regional Support Manager will need to be equally comfortable supporting a high-performing service as they are walking into a challenging home, quickly understanding what's happening and working alongside the Home Manager to establish a clear route forward. This requires someone who can coach and support while still challenging performance and holding people accountable.
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse – RGN or RMN with active NMC registration – essential.
- Strong management experience within elderly nursing care.
- Regional, multi-site or senior operational experience highly desirable.
- Alternatively, significant experience as a successful Nurse Home Manager with the capability to progress regionally.
- Strong knowledge of CQC regulation, clinical governance and quality assurance.
- Proven track record of achieving and maintaining strong regulatory standards.
- Experience implementing service improvement and operational action plans.
- Previous turnaround or improvement experience would be highly advantageous.
- Strong leadership, coaching and people-development skills.
- Commercial understanding across occupancy, staffing, agency, budgets and overall home performance.
- Ability to analyse operational information and translate findings into meaningful action.
- Confidence challenging constructively and holding senior managers accountable.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the regional portfolio.
Your Priorities
As Regional Support Manager, your focus will be on creating consistency, accountability and sustainable performance across the portfolio. You'll work alongside individual Home Managers to understand where each service currently sits, what support it requires and what needs to happen next.
Your priorities will include strengthening quality and governance, improving regulatory performance, developing Home Managers, increasing workforce stability, reducing unnecessary agency reliance and supporting strong occupancy and commercial performance. Where a home requires additional support, you'll be expected to get underneath the issues quickly, establish a clear action plan and remain involved until improvements are sustainably embedded.
Ultimately, your role is to ensure each Home Manager has the leadership, challenge, support and operational direction required to run a successful service.
What's On Offer?
â £85,000 - £90,000 Salary
â Up to 20% Annual Regional Performance Bonus
â Mileage paid at HMRC standard rate
â Significant operational responsibility across 8 care homes
â Autonomy to influence quality, culture and performance across an established regional portfolio
â Opportunity to work closely with senior operational leadership
â Genuine scope to develop and strengthen Home Managers across the region
â A varied position combining operational leadership, clinical governance, commercial performance and service improvement
The Portfolio & Location
The Regional Support Manager will oversee eight care homes across a broad South regional portfolio, including services in:
Oxfordshire | Cardiff | Somerset | Wiltshire | Hampshire
Given the geographical spread of the portfolio, this is a highly mobile regional position and candidates must be comfortable travelling regularly between services.
The position could be particularly well suited to candidates based around:
Swindon | Newbury | Didcot | Oxford | Reading | Chippenham | Marlborough | Devizes | Andover | Salisbury | Basingstoke
Candidates based in surrounding areas with good access to the M4, A34 and wider strategic road network are also encouraged to apply. The successful Regional Support Manager will be expected to maintain a strong and visible presence across the portfolio, prioritising their time according to the operational needs of each service.
Summary
Regional positions at this level require more than simply overseeing a group of care homes.
We're looking for someone who can walk into a service, quickly understand its people, quality, clinical and commercial position, identify what needs to change and work alongside the Home Manager to deliver it.
For an experienced Regional Support Manager, Regional Operations Manager, Area Manager or accomplished Nurse Home Manager looking for a substantial regional remit, this offers the opportunity to influence eight care homes, develop senior leaders and make a measurable impact across quality, culture and operational performance.
