SENCO – Brand New Specialist School
Location: Colchester
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000

 

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and experienced SENCO to join a brand-new specialist school in Colchester, supporting students aged 8–16 with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

 

This is a rare chance to shape a provision from the ground up and ensure that every child receives the personalised, therapeutic, and high-quality support they deserve.

 

About the Role

 

As SENCO, you will be the driving force behind the school’s SEND provision, ensuring robust systems, outstanding support, and effective strategies are in place from day one.

 

Working as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will collaborate closely with the Associate Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher to embed best practice and deliver exceptional outcomes.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and overseeing all aspects of SEND policy, strategy, and compliance

  • Coordinating and writing EHCPs, annual reviews, reports, and assessments

  • Ensuring highly effective provision for learners with ASC and SEMH

  • Working closely with teaching staff to deliver high-quality, personalised teaching and intervention

  • Leading on graduated response, progress tracking, and provision mapping

  • Managing external partnerships with therapists, specialists, LA teams, and families

  • Delivering SEND CPD, coaching and guidance for staff

  • Ensuring safeguarding and inclusion are embedded in every aspect of school life

About You

  • NASENCO qualification (or currently working towards it)

  • Strong experience supporting pupils with ASC and/or SEMH

  • A deep understanding of SEND legislation and best practice

  • Exceptional communication, organisation and multi-agency working skills

  • The ability to lead staff with confidence, empathy and clarity

  • A proactive approach to developing new systems, culture, and provision
