Ward Manager – General Psychiatry & Addiction Treatment

Permanent, full-time, 37.5h/week

Overview

 

A leading private healthcare provider is seeking a dedicated Ward Manager to oversee two specialist inpatient units supporting adults experiencing a range of mental health challenges, including psychosis, mood disorders, trauma, personality disorders, anxiety, and addiction.

 

You will join a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, specialty doctors, mental health nurses, therapists, and support staff, all working collaboratively to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. This role is pivotal in ensuring safe, effective clinical practice and fostering an environment where patients can regain stability, confidence, and long-term wellbeing.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the ward, ensuring safe staffing levels, appropriate skill mix, and effective deployment of resources.
  • Maintain full oversight of nursing rotas, ensuring compliance with e-rostering standards, training allocations, annual leave planning, and workforce optimisation.
  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality clinical care, ensuring patient care plans are implemented, reviewed, and aligned with evidence-based practice.
  • Ensure all nursing team members receive clinical supervision, appraisal, support with CPD, and complete mandatory training.
  • Identify skills gaps or performance issues and implement appropriate training, coaching, or improvement plans.
  • Work collaboratively with the MDT to support patient recovery, promote dignity, and uphold care excellence.
  • Contribute to clinical audits, service improvements, and the ongoing development of ward standards and practices.
  • Promote a culture of compassion, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

 

 

Candidate Requirements

 

  • Registration with the NMC or HCPC is essential.
  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience within a relevant mental health or social care setting.
  • Experience managing rotas, service delivery, clinical audits, or operational workflows.
  • Confident in leading teams, prioritising competing responsibilities, and maintaining high standards of clinical governance.
  • Trained Assessor/Supervisor, with strong IT literacy and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Resilience and emotional intelligence to work in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment where no two days are the same.
  • Previous experience supervising nurses or care staff and supporting their professional growth.
