We are working with an established elderly care provider seeking an ambitious and driven Home Manager to lead a well-regarded nursing, dementia and residential care home in Shropshire.
The home is currently operating at approximately 97% occupancy and is considered a stable service with a strong local reputation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader to build upon solid foundations, maintain quality standards and further strengthen the culture of the home.
The successful candidate will inherit an established team and will be expected to provide visible, motivational leadership. A key priority will be supporting and developing the Deputy Manager, who has been in position for a short tenure, while also addressing a recent increase in agency usage.
This is a supportive care provider that empowers its Home Managers to lead with autonomy while providing access to experienced senior leadership and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
- Operationally lead an established elderly nursing, dementia and residential care home.
- Maintain the home’s strong occupancy position of approximately 97%.
- Provide visible, vibrant and engaging leadership across the service.
- Support, mentor and develop the recently appointed Deputy Manager.
- Maintain strong standards of care, compliance, governance and resident experience.
- Review staffing levels and implement strategies to reduce increasing agency usage.
- Recruit, retain and develop a stable and high-performing staff team.
- Ensure the home remains fully prepared for regulatory inspection.
- Monitor operational, clinical and financial performance.
- Build strong relationships with residents, relatives, employees, commissioners and external stakeholders.
- Identify areas for improvement and ensure actions are completed effectively.
- Promote a positive, accountable and resident-focused culture throughout the home.
The Ideal Candidate
- Proven track record as a successful Home Manager within elderly care.
- Previous experience managing a nursing, dementia or residential care service.
- NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management, or an equivalent qualification.
- Nurse-qualified candidates, including RGN or RMN, would be preferred but this is not essential.
- Strong understanding of CQC regulations, governance and quality assurance.
- Demonstrable experience maintaining or improving care standards.
- Experience supporting and developing members of a senior management team.
- Proven ability to manage staffing, recruitment, retention and agency usage.
- Commercial awareness, with an understanding of occupancy and financial performance.
- Vibrant, engaging and highly visible leadership style.
- Driven, organised and proactive, with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
