Compass Associates are proud to be working with a valued client in their recruitment for an experienced Head of HR to join the senior leadership team of a well-established, values-driven elderly care provider based in Herefordshire.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the organisation’s centralised HR function, shaping and delivering the people strategy across the group while supporting operational leaders to maintain high standards of care and regulatory compliance.

 

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the continued development of the business, ensuring the organisation continues to attract, develop, and retain high-quality staff across its services.

 

This role will combine both strategic leadership and operational involvement, with the successful individual expected to work closely with the wider leadership team while also maintaining a hands-on approach within the HR function.

     

The Candidate       

The successful candidate will have experience operating at Head of People, Head of HR, or HR Director level, ideally within healthcare, social care, or another regulated environment.

 

You will be confident supporting and advising senior leadership, able to challenge constructively where needed while maintaining strong working relationships across the organisation. Experience managing a centralised HR team and supporting multi-site operations will be essential.

 

The role requires someone who can take ownership of key initiatives and deliver them independently, ensuring projects are implemented effectively while maintaining a detailed, compliance-led approach in line with regulatory requirements.

 

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves when required, rather than purely delegating. You will have a strong understanding of employment law, HR best practice, and organisational development, alongside a genuine passion for creating positive workplace cultures within care environments.

     

Requirements   

 

  • Proven experience in a senior HR leadership role (Head of HR, Head of People, or HR Director).
  • Experience working within a regulated environment (healthcare or social care preferred).
  • Experience managing a centralised HR function and supporting multi-site operations.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. 

 

Location       

The role is based in Hertfordshire and is commutable from: St Albans, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Hitchin, Letchworth Garden City, Bishop’s Stortford, Borehamwood and Hertford.   

 

Summary       

My client is seeking an experienced Head of HR with a strong background operating within a regulated environment to provide strategic leadership across the organisation’s people function. In return, they are offering a competitive salary of £75,000 - £80,000, alongside an attractive benefits package.
