Salary: £70,000 per annum + Benefits
Hours: Full Time | Permanent | Monday – Friday, with flexibility as required
Location: Devon

Remit

Compass Associates are proud to be partnering with an established elderly care provider to appoint an experienced Home Manager for a well-performing, medium-size Residential Dementia Care Home.

This is an excellent opportunity to inherit a home from a position of strength.

The service currently holds a Good CQC rating, benefits from a stable workforce, strong community relationships and an excellent local reputation, while maintaining occupancy above 90%. The provider is looking for an experienced leader who can maintain the stability already established while bringing fresh ideas, strong leadership and a continued focus on quality and commercial performance.

The incoming Home Manager will have full operational responsibility for the service, with a key focus on maintaining high-quality person-centred care, developing the existing team, strengthening resident and family satisfaction and continuing to drive occupancy and sustainable performance. This isn't a turnaround assignment. It's an opportunity for an accomplished Home Manager to take an already successful service and build upon strong foundations.

The Opportunity

As Home Manager, you'll take responsibility for the overall operational, regulatory and commercial performance of the home, including:

  • Maintaining and developing the home's Good CQC rating, with a clear focus on continuous improvement.
  • Leading, coaching and developing an established care team.
  • Creating a supportive, accountable and inclusive culture across the home.
  • Maintaining strong occupancy while identifying opportunities for further sustainable growth.
  • Taking ownership of budgets, financial performance and operational KPIs.
  • Ensuring consistently high standards of person-centred dementia care.
  • Maintaining effective governance, auditing and regulatory compliance.
  • Building strong relationships with residents, relatives and external stakeholders.
  • Working closely with commissioners, healthcare professionals, regulators and local community partners.
  • Using performance data to identify areas for improvement and drive positive operational outcomes.
  • Remaining visible within the home and ensuring colleagues feel supported, developed and accountable.

The Candidate

We're looking for an experienced Care Home Manager with a strong background within elderly residential and/or dementia care.

You'll be a confident and visible leader who understands that successful home management requires the right balance between quality, people and commercial performance. You'll have experience developing high-performing teams and creating a positive culture while maintaining clear expectations and accountability. Strong knowledge of CQC regulations and governance will be essential, alongside the commercial awareness to understand occupancy, budgets, costs and overall home performance. The successful candidate will be supportive and approachable while remaining confident in making difficult decisions, managing change and driving continuous improvement.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous Home Manager experience within elderly care.
  • Strong experience within residential and/or dementia care.
  • Experience managing a comparable-sized care service.
  • Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of CQC regulations, compliance and inspection frameworks.
  • Proven ability to maintain or improve regulatory standards.
  • Strong leadership and people-development experience.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and performance-manage teams effectively.
  • Good commercial understanding, including occupancy, budgets and financial performance.
  • Strong stakeholder-management skills across families, regulators, commissioners and healthcare professionals.
  • A visible, supportive and accountable leadership style.
  • Passion for delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

What's On Offer?

✔ £70,000 salary

✔ Mileage expenses for business travel

✔ Laptop and mobile phone

✔ Opportunity to inherit an established Good-rated service

✔ Strong existing occupancy and commercial foundations

✔ Stable workforce and positive team environment

✔ Excellent reputation within the local community

✔ Opportunity to develop an established home rather than inherit a significant turnaround

✔ Support from an experienced regional and operational leadership structure

✔ Genuine opportunity to make a long-term impact on the quality, culture and performance of the service

The Opportunity Ahead

The priority for the incoming Home Manager will be to protect what already works while identifying opportunities to take the service further. Over the next 12–24 months, the focus will be on maintaining high-quality person-centred care and regulatory compliance, strengthening workforce stability and development, continuing to improve occupancy and commercial performance, and further developing resident and family satisfaction. For a Home Manager who enjoys building on success rather than firefighting, this represents an excellent opportunity to join a stable service with the foundations already in place.

Location

The home is based within Devon and is accessible from a number of surrounding towns and communities. Further information regarding the location and provider will be discussed confidentially with suitable applicants.

Summary

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Home Manager to take responsibility for an established elderly care service with a Good CQC rating, strong occupancy, a stable workforce and an excellent local reputation. The provider isn't looking for someone to simply maintain the status quo. They want a visible and commercially aware leader who can support and develop the existing team, protect quality standards and continue moving the home forward. If you're an experienced Home Manager looking for a stable service where you can genuinely influence its next chapter, I'd be keen to speak with you.
