Registered Home Manager | Luxury Elderly Care | Commissioning, Turnaround & Growth
East Kent, England
£75,000 – £80,000 + Benefits
Full-Time | Permanent
Remit
Are you an experienced Registered Home Manager who enjoys building strong teams, improving quality and taking a care home through its next stage of development?
Compass Associates are partnering with an ambitious, growing elderly care provider to recruit a Registered Home Manager for a modern, purpose-built nursing, residential and dementia care home in East Kent. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a relatively new service that is still progressing through its commissioning and occupancy-growth journey. With the home requiring greater leadership stability, a stronger quality focus and continued development of its workforce, the successful candidate will have a genuine opportunity to make their mark.
Importantly, this is more than a home management position. The provider has ambitious plans to expand its portfolio over the coming years, creating opportunities for talented individuals to contribute to wider operational projects and progress into senior leadership as the business develops.
The Role
As Registered Home Manager, you will take responsibility for the overall operational, clinical, commercial and cultural performance of the home. Your immediate priority will be to establish consistent leadership, strengthen quality standards and drive occupancy growth, while creating a positive environment for residents, families and employees.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Leading the commissioning and infill journey of a medium-size bed care home, driving sustainable occupancy growth.
-
Providing visible, consistent leadership and establishing clear expectations across the team.
-
Identifying and addressing quality concerns, strengthening clinical governance and ensuring regulatory compliance.
-
Building relationships with residents, families, local authorities, healthcare professionals and community stakeholders.
-
Developing a stable, motivated workforce and strengthening recruitment, retention and staff engagement.
-
Coaching and developing the Deputy Manager, supporting succession planning and building future leadership capability.
-
Managing budgets, staffing expenditure and operational performance.
-
Embedding effective policies, procedures, systems and processes to support continuous improvement.
-
Working closely with senior operational leadership to identify risks, implement solutions and share best practice.
-
Contributing to wider organisational initiatives, potentially including dementia care, training, staff wellbeing and service innovation.
You will have the autonomy to lead the home while working closely with senior leadership to shape how the wider organisation operates as it continues to grow.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for an established care leader who can combine strong people management with the operational discipline required to improve a developing service. You will be comfortable taking ownership of challenges, making decisions and bringing stability to a home that needs a confident, visible leader. You will understand that successful commissioning is about more than filling beds; it requires the right culture, consistent care standards, a capable workforce and a strong local reputation.
The ideal candidate will have experience leading an elderly care service through a period of growth, change or improvement. Previous commissioning, turnaround or significant occupancy-growth experience would be particularly valuable.
Just as importantly, you will be someone who enjoys developing others and working collaboratively with senior leadership. The provider is looking for a manager who can deliver within their own home while also contributing ideas and helping shape the organisation's future.
Essential Experience
-
Proven experience as a Registered Home Manager or equivalent senior care leader within elderly care.
-
Strong knowledge of CQC requirements, regulatory compliance and clinical governance.
-
Experience leading teams through operational change, service improvement or business growth.
-
Ability to identify quality concerns and implement sustainable improvements.
-
Strong understanding of occupancy, admissions, staffing, budgets and overall home performance.
-
Experience recruiting, developing and retaining a capable workforce.
-
Ability to coach and develop Deputy Managers and future leaders.
-
Excellent communication, decision-making and stakeholder-management skills.
-
A proactive, hands-on leadership style with the ability to influence at all levels.
A nursing qualification and active NMC PIN would be advantageous, although the opportunity is also relevant to experienced non-clinical Home Managers with a strong track record of operational leadership.
The Candidate
This position would suit someone currently working as a:
Registered Home Manager | General Manager | Commissioning Manager | Turnaround Manager | Senior Care Home Manager
You may already be managing a successful home but want a new challenge where you can make a visible difference, take ownership of a developing service and influence how it progresses.
Alternatively, you may have experience turning around an underperforming home, commissioning a new service or driving occupancy growth and be looking for an opportunity to apply that experience within an ambitious organisation. For candidates with regional or multi-site experience, there may also be scope to explore how their broader operational background could support the provider's development, depending on business requirements and suitability.
What's On Offer?
-
£75,000 – £80,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
-
26 days' annual leave + bank holidays.
-
Private medical insurance.
-
MediCash healthcare benefits.
-
People's Pension scheme, with employer contribution details to be confirmed.
-
The opportunity to take ownership of a developing care home and deliver measurable improvements.
-
Direct exposure to senior operational leadership and organisational decision-making.
-
Involvement in wider projects covering quality, dementia care, training, wellbeing and service innovation.
-
The opportunity to help shape policies, procedures, systems and processes as the business develops.
-
Long-term career progression potential as the provider expands its portfolio and creates additional operational leadership opportunities.
Why Consider It?
The provider has ambitious plans to grow its care home portfolio, with a longer-term development pipeline expected to create opportunities beyond individual home management. As the organisation expands, its operational structure is also expected to develop, creating potential opportunities for progression into regional and wider operational roles for those who demonstrate the right capability and results.
This makes the position particularly attractive for someone who wants to combine the responsibility of running a home with the opportunity to contribute to a growing business. The immediate challenge is to establish strong leadership, improve quality, build occupancy and develop a high-performing team. The longer-term opportunity is to be part of an organisation where your contribution could extend beyond one service as new homes open and the business evolves.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide stability and commit to the home for approximately 12–18 months, giving them the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact.
Location & Commutability
The home is located in East Kent and may suit candidates travelling from across Kent and the surrounding coastal areas.
Locations offering a potentially realistic commute include:
Canterbury | Herne Bay | Whitstable | Faversham | Ashford | Sittingbourne | Ramsgate | Broadstairs | Deal | Dover | Folkestone
