Job Title: Ward Manager - Neurorehabilitation

Hours: Full-Time - 35 hours per week across a 7-day rota

Salary: Up to £52,591 per annum DOE

Compass Associates is proudly partnering with a specialist provider of neurorehabilitation and complex care services. We are supporting the search for an experienced and compassionate Ward Manager to join a dedicated clinical team in York.

This role is a unique opportunity for a dynamic nurse leader to oversee and shape care delivery within a specialist neurorehabilitation setting, supporting adults with acquired brain injuries and complex needs. You will provide operational leadership, ensure high standards of person-centred care, and work collaboratively to promote a positive and progressive clinical culture.

 

Service:

This service offers comprehensive assessment, rehabilitation, and support for adults over 18 living with acquired brain injury, neurological conditions, and complex care requirements. The focus is on enabling individuals to regain independence and meet personal recovery goals through tailored, evidence-based care. You will be leading a multidisciplinary team in a highly specialist environment that prioritises safety, empowerment, and positive outcomes for the people supported.

 

Role & Responsibilities:

As Ward Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the clinical and operational delivery of care within a busy neurorehabilitation ward. You will be a key decision-maker, providing clear leadership to nursing and support staff while ensuring that clinical standards are consistently high and aligned with best practice. A large part of your role will involve empowering the team to deliver safe, compassionate, and personalised care, while fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.

You will manage staffing levels, oversee clinical assessments and care planning, and ensure the ward runs efficiently on a day-to-day basis. You’ll take the lead on staff development, performance reviews, supervision, and mentorship, helping to build a confident, capable workforce. You will also play a key part in safeguarding processes, risk assessments, investigations, and audits, ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met and that individuals in your care are treated with dignity, respect, and professionalism at all times.

 

 

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse (RMN or RNLD) – current NMC registration
  • Proven experience in a similar leadership or ward management role
  • Experience supporting individuals with complex or neurological needs
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Flexibility to work across a 7-day rota including participation in the on-call rota
  • Understanding of clinical governance and safeguarding procedures
  • Experience managing a multidisciplinary team

Desirable:

  • Mentorship in Practice qualification or willingness to undertake
  • Experience of working with or managing complex clinical risk
  • Experience working within neurorehabilitation or ABI services
  • Ability to drive service improvements and lead audits
  • Budget management awareness
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
