Overview

Compass Associates are proud to be working with a leading UK provider of specialist health and social care services, supporting them in the appointment of an Interim HR Advisor to cover their services across South Wales.

Our client is a well-established, values-led organisation supporting individuals with a range of complex needs through residential care and supported living services. With approximately 3,200 employees nationally and ambitious growth plans over the next 12 months, this is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

This six-month fixed-term contract has arisen due to an internal HR project, with the potential for an extension depending on business requirements.

You'll be joining an established and collaborative HR function, working alongside an experienced HR Business Partner and wider People team who will provide ongoing support.

The Role

As an Interim HR Advisor, you'll provide comprehensive generalist HR and Employee Relations support to managers and operational leaders across a portfolio of residential care and supported living services throughout Wales.

This is a varied, hands-on HR position where you'll advise on disciplinary and grievance procedures, sickness absence management, workplace investigations and wider employee relations matters.

You'll work closely with Registered Managers, Regional Directors and operational teams, providing practical HR advice, ensuring policies and procedures are followed and supporting a positive working environment.

Alongside your day-to-day HR advisory responsibilities, you'll contribute to wider people initiatives, including employee engagement, HR policy reviews, change management and workforce reporting.

The position offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, combining home working with visits to services across the region. The balance will vary depending on operational requirements, giving you autonomy to manage your workload while remaining connected to the services you support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional HR advice and guidance to managers across multiple healthcare and social care services.
  • Manage a varied Employee Relations caseload, including disciplinary, grievance, absence management and workplace investigations.
  • Support Registered Managers and operational leaders with HR policies, procedures and employment best practice.
  • Advise on employee performance, capability, conduct and sickness absence matters.
  • Support HR-related safeguarding considerations, including DBS risk assessments where required.
  • Contribute to employee engagement initiatives, policy reviews and organisational change projects.
  • Prepare and review monthly HR reports, monitoring key workforce metrics including sickness absence and employee turnover.
  • Develop strong working relationships with stakeholders across residential care and supported living services.
  • Work collaboratively with the HR Business Partner and wider HR Operations team to deliver consistent, effective HR support.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in an HR Advisor, HR Generalist, Employee Relations Advisor or similar HR position.
  • Strong practical experience managing employee relations cases, including disciplinaries, grievances, investigations and absence management.
  • Experience working within a high-volume, operationally focused environment.
  • Confident providing HR advice and guidance to managers and senior stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of HR policies, procedures and employment legislation.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and manage a varied workload.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between services across South Wales and West Wales.
  • Proactive, approachable and collaborative, with a values-led approach to supporting employees and managers.

Desirable:

  • Previous HR experience within healthcare, adult social care, residential care or supported living.
  • Experience within other high-volume environments, including childcare, nursery groups, hospitality or retail, will also be considered.
  • CIPD Level 3, CIPD Level 5 or working towards a relevant HR qualification.
  • Experience supporting multisite operations or regulated services.

Relevant practical HR experience will be considered in place of formal CIPD qualifications.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary up to £35,000 per annum (pro rata).
  • £5,000 annual car allowance (pro rata).
  • Business mileage reimbursement.
  • Standard employee benefits and annual leave entitlement.
  • Supportive and experienced HR leadership team.
  • Opportunity to contribute to wider HR projects and initiatives.
  • Potential contract extension depending on business requirements.
