Compass Associates are delighted to be working with a leading international healthcare organisation specialising in advanced cancer care and oncology services, to recruit a Principal Physicist – Nuclear Medicine & Theranostics for an established specialist centre in South West London.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join an ambitious, rapidly expanding healthcare provider, offering significant clinical autonomy, the opportunity to develop a specialist Nuclear Medicine service, and potential progression into wider leadership responsibilities as the organisation continues to expand.

The Position

As Principal Physicist, you will take a senior, hands-on role in the development and delivery of Nuclear Medicine physics, molecular imaging and theranostics services.

A key focus of the position will be supporting the introduction and commissioning of a new PET/CT system, alongside establishing robust clinical governance, radiation protection and quality assurance processes.

You will have considerable autonomy within the London service, whilst benefiting from the support of an established international network of medical physics, clinical and governance professionals.

As the organisation expands its UK services, there is also potential for the successful candidate to progress into broader national leadership responsibilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting Nuclear Medicine physics services, including PET/CT, SPECT/CT and theranostics.

  • Supporting the commissioning, acceptance testing and clinical implementation of new PET/CT equipment.

  • Developing and maintaining robust quality assurance and quality control programmes.

  • Ensuring compliance with IR(ME)R, IRR17, ARSAC and relevant UK regulatory requirements.

  • Contributing to clinical governance, risk assessments, policies and departmental procedures.

  • Supporting the development of molecular imaging and radionuclide therapy services.

  • Working collaboratively with clinical colleagues, equipment suppliers and external specialist advisers.

  • Supporting future service expansion, innovation, research and professional development.

The Candidate

We are interested in speaking with experienced Nuclear Medicine Physicists and Clinical Scientists who are looking for a senior position offering genuine autonomy, technical challenge and the opportunity to develop a specialist service.

Ideally, you will demonstrate:

  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist in Medical Physics.

  • An MSc or higher qualification in Medical Physics, Radiation Physics or a closely related subject.

  • Significant post-qualification experience in Nuclear Medicine physics.

  • Experience across PET/CT, SPECT/CT and/or theranostics services.

  • Experience in equipment commissioning, acceptance testing, QA/QC and clinical service development.

  • Strong knowledge of radiation protection, regulatory compliance and clinical governance.

  • Recognition as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Nuclear Medicine, or a well-developed portfolio towards recognition.

  • Excellent communication, leadership and multidisciplinary working skills.

  • Confidence working independently and taking ownership of specialist clinical projects.

Experience in PET/CT service implementation, radionuclide therapy, RPA/RWA responsibilities or the development of new Nuclear Medicine services would be advantageous.

Importantly, we recognise that candidates may not meet every criterion. Applications are encouraged from experienced professionals who meet the majority of the requirements and demonstrate the potential to develop further, with appropriate training and support available.
